The tough part is once you and your dreamcannot be distinguished. once you become the dream, dream of not justyour parents or yourself, but some extent within the journey where you become the dream of a nation. once you become the dream of the alternatives youmade, when your vision echoes in many resonating voices across the planet , fromwhere there's no looking back, you're the dream. Today, as you stand on this formative threshold, from where you anticipate to creating those dreams wake up , your parents look uponyou with prayers, your teachers search to you proudly , and therefore the nation looks up toyou with hope. that's the strength of the facility of a dream. And today it's yours. Grab it with all of your courage and make ithappen. There are often times when it'll be or feelimpossible to perform. it's going to desire a fairy tale. nobody said that life is straightforward but never beshaken by its adversities. A dream, a vision isn't an intangible, unreal, imaginary piece of fiction. A dream has hands, it's feet, it's a body. Your hands, your feet, your body. The dream is you. And you're the dream. May that you simply always remain united in spirit. And if meaning a struggle, if that meansa flight to end , so be it. it isn't about winning or losing, it's aboutliving a life. If I had been a sportsman, a boxer, athlete, hockey player, cricketer.
If I had joined the military , the Navy and theAir Force, if I had been anything aside from an actor, my parents would still havebeen happy because i used to be their dream. regardless of what, i personally was dreaming to be. Gandhiji said, and therefore the speaker here, the headboys talked about change. He said, be the change that you simply wish to seein the planet . If I were to feature my feelings thereto , I'd say,be the dream that you simply wish to ascertain within the world. So... So, live a dream. A dream which is neither mine, nor yours, nor anyone else's; a dream which belongs only to itself. What you bring back the planet are the blessingsof your parents, learnings of your teachers, and your dreams. they're precious. don't trade them for love or money within the world, which brings us to a curious word that has become a neighborhood of some quite jargon. it is a word called 'Career.' I'm almost sure I quite like this wordcareer. Career is literally a touch of speed like ahorse does on a racetrack. Bolting it uncontrollable speed without aname or an objective.
Life isn't a racecourse. Life is an order, a discipline. Life may be a focus. Life may be a purpose. A purpose achieved by virtues, which are developedwith personal effort. don't gamble on life. it's going to not happen twice. A dream, therefore, is far quite a career. The dreams of the oldsters and therefore the dreams ofthe child sleep in one place remember, that place is named home. Not yours, not mine, not his, not hers, noone person's. A house is always ours, our home. Our dream is our worship. Our vision is our prayer. this is often the structure of dreams. this is often the bond. this is often alter the bondage, a bond of affection ,the bondage of responsibility. Be that of alittle family or that of a largenation. We are because we dare to dream. We are because we learn to Excel.
You know, likelihood is that very strong that I couldhave been in cinema or in the other creative aspect of life, without a grounding in education. Education, which is in consonance with thebelief that, what sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the human soul. We shouldn't aspire towards a graduation degreemerely due to peer or parental pressure. and that i say this with all due respect. we should always aspire to become graduates becausewe feel the necessity to be complete with the advantage of formal education. Remember always in life, whatever is goodto know, is difficult to find out . The education of the best value that Ireceived in my school, which was Sherwood College up within the Hills, in Nainital, washow to be a person's being, or what we call in shorthand, character. and that i don't mean those that I play in myfilms. Admittedly, I had the advantage of inspirationalparentage, but Sherwood taught me to measure in dignity with my peers, sleep in a communityand live well with myself within the world at large, in consequence. cohabitation , working together, learningtogether, fighting and loving one another , competing fairly in noble rivalry and cooperatingsupportively. I learned a way of fellowship. So, well-put in my school motto, which wasin Latin. Mereat quisque palmam. Let all merit their own price. Let all merit their own price.
I've always believed that one must harnessthe power of dignity through training, training of the mind, the body and therefore the spirit. Another word for this training is named discipline. I didn't always wish to accept as true with the routineof private school and therefore the rules. But afterwards, I can tell you, i actually appreciatedthe incontrovertible fact that had it not been for its initially imposed regimen, I couldn't have learnedto harness the facility of my very own dignity, for myself. The prize ring in my school was a compulsoryactivity. Everybody in class had to enter the boxingring and fight. It's now probably an extended abolished practicebecause of its barbaric practice. But to me, it had been an excellent tutor during this regard. you'll have any amount of support from outsidethe ropes, but inside you're on your own. Similarly, in life beyond, you'll have adiehard co-ops of cheering fans and also perhaps people who jeered at you, criticized you, abuse you in contempt, but at the top of the day, you want to engage life alone. the best prize in life isn't the recognitionof worldly success.
The prize, the simplest crowns the human beingis that of the possession of excellent character. it's a strenuous price. It must be re-won. it's also a certainty of mind that thereis many an day where I shall fail that prize myself. Not for want of trying, but it's the mostworthy prize of all. And without itself, in the least material successand fame is sheer emptiness. to get the worth of one's dignity isalso to get the worth within the dignity of others. and thru that, the dignity of a community. the proper to education may be a fundamental right,a fundamental right , a fundamental dignity. To pursue the aim of education for all istherefore a requirement of states. But it's not just a requirement for the state, it'sa duty for each one among us to uphold fundamental human rights. Not just our own, except for all. Yet, as you recognize , ladies and gentlemen, herein India, basic literacy remains below the edge level of 75% literacy. having the ability to read and write is usually morethan the sum of its parts due to what it exposes for people. Literacy finishes up being a sort of metaphor. As soon together can read and write, one becomesa member of a way larger community than would be otherwise possible.
A community that also extends into the pastand into the longer term . Literacy not only enriches our inner lives,it is also an important means for effective social and economic participation, contributingto human development and poverty reduction. Not having the ability to read may be a human poverty, not having the ability to read is an inhuman poverty. Not having the ability to read deprives the humanof the proper to measure in our collectivity. Not having the ability to read may be a loss of freedom. That a 3rd of our population is deprivedof this freedom, deprives us all of our freedom. an honest education is that the most precious thingthat a person's being can possess.
it's our greatest wealth, individually andcollectively. within the world beyond these walls, fortuneswill come and go. Money will come and go. But an honest education can never be taken awayonce it's been possessed. Achievement isn't enough. the type of data gained through a goodeducation is quite just the acquisition of data . Knowledge is learning what to try to to with allthat information. that's the role of excellent character. And learning what to try to to with the knowledgeis the trail to wisdom. Knowledge is most precious when it's shared. to all or any my fellow students, and that i call youfellow students because I'm still one. to all or any of my fellow students out there, maybetake heed a day of our wealth, hunger for it, strive for it, nurture it. But in particular , share in it. For then it manifests multi-foldedly. We share it through reading, surfing, listening, talking, debating, exploring with one another about what's good and bad and what we dosay and believe. May we all here today persevere accordingto our own individual invaluable and singular talents for a bright and better future. Mereat quisque palmam. Let all merit his price. Dare to dream. Learn to Excel. Thank you.
